Allahabad
Agricultural Institute was established in 1910. In 1911, the Agriculture and Technical
Department of the College were shifted across the Jamuna River from Allahabad. In April
1913, the Agriculture and Technical Department were bifurcated from the Arts and Science
Department of the Christian College.
In order to obtain more academic freedom and to strengthen the specialized
programme of teaching, research and extension, a proposal was submitted to the Ministry of
Human Resource Development, the Govt. of India on 31st August, 1994 for
granting the Deemed University status to the institute. Later on 15th and 16th
May 1997, a team of experts appointed by the University Grants Commission visited the
institute. It was encouraging to learn about the report submitted by the visiting team to
the commission that the institute has all the infrastructure and academic means for
granting the deemed university status.
It was on July 29th 1997 that the meeting of the full commission was
held at UGC, and it recommended finally to the Ministry of Human Resources Development,
Govt. of India, for issuance of notification for the Deemed University status to Allahabad
Agricultural Institute. |
